Army Credentialing Assistance

Using ArmyIgnitED (Credentialing Assistance)

If you plan to use the Army Credentialing Assistance (CA) Program, submit your CA request in ArmyIgnitED at least 45 days before your start date. This is the first step toward funding approval for our A&P course.

Funding update: ArmyIgnitED CA funding is capped at $2,000 per fiscal year. The Soldier is responsible for any remaining balance prior to class.

Option One

Get your 8610-2 via JSAMTCC (Joint Service AMTCC)

Email the current USAACE credentialing program manager and state you will attend Matta Aviation Services A&P Prep Course and need the FAA Form 8610-2. They will enroll you in Air University. After completing the online testing and your OJT packet, you will receive your “tickets” (FAA Form 8610-2).

  • Typical timeline: 2–4 weeksDepends on how quickly you complete the tasks.
Option Two

Get your 8610-2 at your local FSDO (based on military experience)

Follow this checklist to prepare for your appointment with an Airworthiness Safety Inspector at your local FSDO.

  1. Experience proof (SRB)
Provide your SRB showing 30 months (MOS 15 series for A&P) or 18 months (for Airframe or Powerplant only).
Use the FAA MOS equivalency list (Order 8900.1 CHG 675 Rev.1) to verify creditable experience.
  2. ID/Citizenship
Submit a REAL-ID (with star), US passport, or birth certificate (plus government ID).
  3. Letter of Recommendation (LOR)
From your Commander, 151A Maintenance Officer, or an FAA A&P stating you meet 14 CFR §65.77 experience requirements.
Use the example letter in the packet.
  4. Complete the Table I–III Experience Worksheet
Describe qualifying work and meet at least 50% of areas for each table. Pay attention to Teaching Levels:
Level 1: principles only • Level 2: principles + limited practical • Level 3: principles + high practical proficiency
  5. Get an FAA Tracking Number (FTN)
Create an IACRA account to obtain your FTN (required for written and O&P exams).
  6. Fill out two copies of FAA Form 8610-2
Do not check the top-left boxes (“Mechanic”, “Airframe”, “Powerplant”). The FAA inspector will complete these if you qualify.
  7. Make your FSDO appointment
Schedule with your nearest Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) for the sign-off interview.
Pro tip: Bring originals and copies of everything to your FSDO interview. Keep your FTN handy. If you’re on a tight timeline, consider starting Option 2 while you wait on JSAMTCC.
